SharePoint is the platform collaboration from Microsoft, SharePoint 2010 extends the possibilities of an intranet or Internet sites with a mix of rich features.  In this course, you will gain practical experience to manage this multifaceted platform. Basic knowledge of SharePoint and strong understanding of Windows SERVER 2008 is assumed.

 

Course Outline

 

SharePoint Administration: Introduction

This chapter will introduce the architecture of SharePoint with an emphasis on the different services available in a SharePoint farm.  This module describes the case study used in the exercises.

• Farm architecture : logical and physical architecture
• Services available : search, business connectivity, user profile
• Authentication mechanism
• Intranet, Extranet and Internet scenarios
• Case study

 

Hands-on Exercises: Overview

The students will discover the architecture using the Central Administration tool and describes the settings of user profiles.

 

SharePoint implementation

This chapter describes the installation, the physical implementation of Sharepoint on a Windows server 2008.  The students will practice the alternate access mappings possibilities related to the authentication mechanisms.

• IIS 7.0 improvements
• The “14 hive”
• SQL Requirements
• Logging options

 

Hands-on Exercises: physical implementation of SharePoint

The students will discover the new features of IIS 7.5 (monitoring and configuration enhancements), they will relocate all logs files to a specific drives.

Security and authentication

 

This module describes the different authentication providers available in SharePoint and some security options

• The different authentication methods (Claims, Windows and Form based)
• Understanding the Kerberos authentication
• Anonymous access
• Enabling SSL on a SharePoint site
• Securing with rights Management services

 

Hands-on Exercises: Authentication methods

The students implements an alternative authentication using the SQL database, they configure the people picker component.

 

Publishing sites versus collaborative sites

This chapter will discuss two classical uses of SharePoint: the collaborative sites and the corporate portal.

• Planning publishing sites
• Optimizing the performance

Hands-on Exercises: implementing collaborative and publishing sites

The students will provision collaborative sites implementing the delegation of management.  They will implement publishing sites with specific cache settings to improve performance.

 

Backup and Recovery

This chapter describes different levels of backup and will cover different scenarios of data loss.

•             Discovering the different scenarios
•             Backup a farm, a site collection, web applications
•             Creating granular backup
•             Backup with SQL 2008R2 features
•             Recovering from a failure     

Hands-on Exercises: Recovering data after a failure

The students will experience different scenarios.  They will use PowerShell command to restore previous backup. 

 

Upgrade of an existing MOSS environment

This chapter will describe the different models to upgrade farms and database to Sharepoint Server 2010

• In place upgrade
• Database upgrade
• Topology upgrade
• Application upgrade.
